So this post is a request you can thank my sister for, the lovely Misha Kaur. With millions of people isolated at home at the moment due to coronavirus, here's How to make Homemade Face Masks using things from your cupboard!


Prep your Skin

Before applying any face masks, it is vital to cleanse your skin for maximum results and effectiveness.  Don't splash your skin with cold water at the end of cleansing as mentioned in the skincare routine post as you want to leave your pores ready and open for all that goodness to get into it. 

Please note: It is recommended to perform a patch test before using any homemade face mask recipe, to check if your skin is reactive or allergic to any of the ingredients if you've never used them before.


How to make Homemade Face Masks


Glowing Turmeric Mask 

Coming from an Indian background, the first beauty secret I have to mention is the turmeric face mask. Indian women use it as a face mask before their wedding day. Turmeric (Haldi we call it in the Punjabi language) comes from the Turmeric root. A traditional spice found in Indian dishes and becomingly an increasingly popular superfood here in the West with it being known for it's endless health benefits when added to your diet, or applied on your skin in the right way.

Turmeric Face Mask Benefits

  • Gives your skin a radiant glow as it lightens & brightens your skin
  • Tackles acne and it blocks and decreases bacteria to prevent future break outs
  • Reduces inflammation with it's active ingrediant Curcumin
  • Evens skin tone as it reduces hyper-pigmentation
  • Softens & reduces the appearance of wrinkles with its antioxidants

Coconut Oil Skin Benefits

  • Nourishes and protects the skin internally
  • Moisterizing for all skin types
  • Great skin cleanser
  • Natural oil, without any chemicals or additives
  • Can be used as a edible tasty lip balm

Skin care Beauty Tips for Coconut Oil: Some coconut oils claim to be "100% pure" coconut oil but if it doesn't taste or smell like coconuts, it's not real coconut oil. Unrefined Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is the best one to buy.

Things you will need:

    • 1 tsp of Turmeric Powder
    • 1 tbsp of Coconut Oil (or a face oil to prevent stains)
    • 3 tbsp of Milk (or yogurt to fight acne even more)
    • Honey (for a more hydrating mask, Manuka Honey is highly recommened)
    • Small clean paint brush
    • Face towel





  1. Put the teaspoon of turmeric powder in a bowl.
  2. Add the milk/yogurt to mix into a paste.
  3. Then melt the coconut oil in the microwave for 5 seconds before adding that to your mixture.
  4. Add the honey if you want a more hydrating mask.
  5. Use the paint brush to paint a thin layer on to your face (or through hair if you get dandruff).
  6. Let it dry for up to 20 minutes.
  7. Rinse off in shower preferably using coconut oil as cleanser
  8. Add your favourite moisturizer and voila! Look at you glow girl! (or guy)


DISCLAIMER: Turmeric leaves a very stubborn stain that make you look like a minion if not removed correctly!

How to make Homemade Face Masks

How to Remove Turmeric Face Mask from skin if you need to:

  • Using a Cleansing Oil is the best way. Massage it into your skin then rinse off.
  • Warm Coconut Oil in a microwave for 15 seconds then use it as cleanser.
  • Mix equal parts sugar and water in a bowl to form a paste and use as a scrub.
  • Mix equal amounts of baking soda and lemon juice to use as a cleansing scrub.

ACV Acne Mask

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is produced through the fermentation of apple cider. During this process, the sugar in mixture of apples is fermented by yeast and/or bacteria added to the cider, which then converts the sugar into alcohol and, finally, into vinegar. It is vital to dilute ACV before using as concentrated forms often lead to skin irritations and sometimes chemical burns.

VERY IMPORTANT : To dilute, add 1 teaspoon of ACV in 1 tablespoon of water.


Green tea is packed with antioxidants which help to protect your skin against free radicals which cause inflammation and skin ageing over time.

Honey is naturally anti-bacterial with tissue repairing properties, and therefore ideal to treat acne. It's also naturally moisturizing which helps to soften and soothe the skin.  Manuka Honey is a better option as it's never subjected to high temperatures during manufacturing so it retains more nutrients than processed honey.


Things you will need:

    • 1 tsp of Apple Cider Vinegar (diluted)
    • 2 tsp of Green Tea (cooled down of course)
    • 1 tsp of honey (Manuka Honey is always better)
    • 1 tsp of sugar (if you'd like to make a scrub)
    • Clean face towel



  1. Simply mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Add more honey if you'd like a thicker mask.
  3. Massage into the skin in upwards motions to lift your skin.
  4. Leave it on your skin for 10 minutes.
  5. Rinse off your skin (not forgetting to scrubs the sides of nose if you added sugar).
  6. Pat your skin dry with a clean face towel.
  7. Apply your fave moisturizer.

How to make Homemade Face Masks

Aloe! Anti-ageing, Hydrating Mask

I absolutely love this plant. If you have any left after making your own homemade hand sanitizer, it's soothing properties are ideal to use on many skin conditions including sunburn,  burns in general, frostbite, psoriasis, eczema, cold sores, acne and inflammation. It's proven to have many anti-ageing benefits as it's an antioxidant that moisturizes, tightens the skin which improves skin elasticity and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

Yogurt is also an antioxidants that prevents free radicals from damaging your and ageing your skin. The components in the nutrients in yogurt can delay wrinkles and fine lines if you use this mask regularly. The lactic acid in yogurt is what prevents your skin from prematurely aging. It's moisturizing, reduces dark circles, fights acne and fades blemishes & pigmentation.

Things you will need:

  • 2 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel
  • 1 tbsp yogurt
  • 1 tbsp honey


  1. Place the aloe vera gel in a bowl.
  2. Add in the honey and then the yogurt.
  3. Mix or whisk well to form a paste (use an electric blender if necessary.)
  4. Allow it to dry for up to 15 minutes.
  5. Rinse off your skin and pat dry.
  6. Apply your face serum then eye cream if you use.
  7. Apply one of your favourite moisturizer in upward motions to lift your skin!

All masks can be used up to 3 times a week.
